Mäi Stroum dynamic

A quarter‑hourly tariff that moves with the market

Choose our dynamic tariff and lower your costs by consuming electricity at the most favourable moments.

With the “Mäi Stroum dynamic” tariff, the electricity price follows wholesale market fluctuations on a 15‑minute basis. Unlike the standard tariff, this gives you the opportunity to benefit from periods when electricity is cheaper – helping you save money on your energy bill.

This tariff can be particularly worthwhile in the following situations:

  • Charging station: Save money by charging your electric vehicle at home when prices are most favourable.

  • Heat pump: Optimise your electricity consumption for heating by adjusting it to market price fluctuations.

  • Home battery: Take advantage of low prices to store energy and use it later when it becomes more expensive.

  • Central energy management system: Intelligently automate your devices so they use more energy when prices are low and reduce consumption during peak-rate periods.

A dynamic price – how does it work?

A tariff that moves with the market

With “Mäi Stroum dynamic”, we offer you a dynamic tariff that changes every fifteen minutes based on the electricity prices on the EPEX Spot exchange, the European electricity marketplace. Prices fluctuate based on the balance between supply and demand. They are set the day before, for each fifteen‑minute interval of the following day.

Comparison with a standard tariff

With a standard tariff, the price remains the same throughout the entire day.

With a dynamic tariff, however, there are periods when electricity is cheaper and others when it may be more expensive. If you are unable to shift your consumption to the cheaper time slots, a dynamic tariff may therefore be less advantageous than a standard tariff.

What is the advantage of the dynamic tariff?

Our dynamic “Mäi Stroum dynamic” tariff allows you to optimise your electricity spending by shifting part of your consumption to the moments when the price per kWh is at its lowest.

With good control of your consumption, you can save money compared to the standard tariff.

In addition, this behaviour supports a better use of renewable energy – a concrete step towards advancing the energy transition.

Important!

If a large part of your consumption takes place during the most expensive hours, this tariff may be less advantageous for you than a standard tariff.

You should also keep in mind that unexpected events on the energy market can lead to sharp price increases.

Is this the right tariff for me?

To benefit from the advantages of a dynamic tariff, you need to be able to shift part of your electricity consumption to times when prices are lower.

Ideally, you have one or more household appliances that you can control and that offer you enough flexibility to plan your electricity consumption:

  • Home charging station for your electric vehicle
  • Smart battery
  • Programmable heat pump
  • Home energy management system

A good understanding of market dynamics and daily monitoring of the quarter‑hourly electricity price are also essential. Prices for the following day are published each day around 2 p.m.

In addition, your home must be equipped with a smart meter.

The so-called fuel mix disclosure data table summarises all the relevant information regarding the origin of the electricity you are consuming. This sheet shows whether your electricity is produced from nuclear, fossil or renewable energy sources. It also shows you the environmental impact of the electricity.

With our Mäi Stroum tariff we supply you with 100% renewable electricity from wind.
