In 2024, we were once again called upon to remain alert and responsive, demonstrating solidarity as we faced the ongoing energy crisis. Nevertheless, we were able to take meaningful action to support our customers. Thanks to a more favourable market context, we could ease the pressure of natural gas bills and reduce the already competitive price of our green electricity offer, launched in 2023.
Looking back at 2024: Price developments and sales
Driven by the positive momentum of the markets, we were able to:
- Introduce three further reductions to our natural gas tariffs, with the SUDgaz Classic rate reaching 54.55 ct/m³ in October.
- Lower the price of our green electricity, Mäi Stroum, from 15.99 ct/kWh to 13.45 ct/kWh for residential customers.
However, we have observed a stabilisation in our natural gas customer base, with some households choosing more sustainable alternatives such as heat pumps incentivised by government measures. What's more, new residential buildings for which planning permission was granted after 1 January 2023 can no longer be connected to the gas network, which further limits the number of new connections.
Despite this shift driven by the energy transition, our customer portfolio remains solid, with 38,224 clients. Although slightly down, natural gas sales experienced a modest recovery in 2024 following a significant decline in 2022–2023, reaching 126.4 million m³, mainly due to a colder winter. Nevertheless, we do not expect volumes to return to pre-crisis levels.
Our natural gas network now extends over 1,145 km. We continue to maintain it diligently, ensuring a very high level of safety and optimal conditions for delivering gas to our customers.
Our green electricity offering continues to gain ground. Many customers have chosen us as their new electricity supplier, attracted by our highly competitive tariffs and quality of service. A communications campaign launched in autumn 2024 further strengthened this momentum and helped grow our customer base.
In 2024, amidst the persistent uncertainties of the energy crisis, we chose to remain true to our commitment: providing affordable energy for all. Thanks to positive market dynamics, we were able to reduce our natural gas and green electricity tariffs.
This remains one of our core priorities, which we pursue with conviction, alongside our commitment to the energy transition and our ongoing efforts to ensure the security of our distribution network.
Highlights of the year
2024 was also marked by several key milestones:
- The inauguration of the Minettenergie solar power plant and the regional wind farm SUDWAND.
- The launch of our new website, designed to simplify procedures and make our services even more accessible.
- And most importantly, the celebration of our 125th anniversary – a legacy that began in 1899 in Esch-sur-Alzette and continues to inspire our mission to serve the community.
